Subject:R.I.P. Charlie Cooper (Telefon Tel Aviv)
Time:04:20 pm
from thetripwire.com

Charlie Cooper, one half of the ambient electronic duo Telefon Tel Aviv, died January 22. The news was announced today by bandmate Joshua Eustis. Cooper was 31.

Eustis posted a letter to fans on the band’s MySpace blog, paying tribute to his friend and fellow musician. The announcement was devoid of any details on the circumstances surrounding Cooper’s death, which are as yet cloudy, according to CBS Chicago.

According to CBS, Cooper was last seen a little before midnight on January 21, when he left the home of a friend in the Wicker Park area of Chicago after arguing with his girlfriend. He had no contact with family or friends after that point until his body was found. CBS reports that Cooper has had a history of threatening suicide, but did not make any suicide claims last week. Medical examiners hope that an autopsy, scheduled to take place today, will help determine the cause of death.

The band had just released its third studio album, Immolate Yourself, January 20 on Bpitch Control.

The full text of Eustis’ announcement reads as follows:

Hello, Everyone.

It breaks my heart to inform you all that Charlie Cooper, my better half in Telefon Tel Aviv, passed away on January 22nd.

We have been friends since high school, and began making records together a decade ago. We have been so fortunate to tour the world together, while at the same time having a massive amount of laughs at one another’s expense.

Aside from Charlie’s singular genius and musical gifts, I can tell you that he was a total sweetheart of a guy, and a loving friend and confidant to people everywhere. His musicianship was surpassed only by his greater gift to the world – his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those whom he loved. In the spirit of honorable mention, however, I should mention that he had a shoe collection that was marvelous, knowledge of hip-hop that was profound, and knowledge of wine that was subtle.

He is survived by a sister, a neice, a nephew, his mother, his stepfather, me, and more adoring friends than the Universe has dark matter. As such, his family and I ask for your discretion and consideration of our privacy during these extremely turbulent waters.

Yours in Music,

Joshua Eustis

Trent Reznor has made more than just songs for Year Zero, the new Nine Inch Nails record. There's a whole world to explore before Year Zero comes out on April 17th. Trent has said that the CD is the soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist: instead of a movie, we get websites full of terrifying what-ifs about the future. We love it! Check it out....

http://yearzero.nin.com - Watch the official Year Zero trailer, see the tracklisting, and check out hidden pics of Trent at work. What's that menacing hand reaching out of the sky in the trailer? You'll have to dig a little deeper to find out.

http://www.symphonyofnoise.com/nails/yearzero - This site links to all the songs that have leaked so far, and if you tilt your head to the left, you'll see links to all the Year Zero-related websites. YEAR ZERO: THE WORLD

http://iamtryingtobelieve.com - In 2022, the U.S. Government is putting something called Parepin in the water. They claim it boosts the immune system and is a tool in the fight against biological terrorism. But is that really the case? Because it sure seems like it's having some scary side effects…

http://anotherversionofthetruth.com - The U.S. Bureau of Morality has a message for you! Creepy, right? Hold down your mouse and drag it across the picture on the main page – like you're scraping off a scratch lottery ticket. There's a lot more underneath the surface… and a lot of it involves Chicago. I found some creepy audio: look for a hidden link on the Violent Resistance page, and you'll hear about an act of terrorism at a "ballpark," near Waveland Avenue… I kid you not. Under Acts of Resistance, there's even more Chicago stuff, including a warning. Other topics: future drugs, lost loved ones, and talk about the Presence.

http://www.bethehammer.net - A website run by an ex-sniper who's killed for our government. A huge chunk of it was done in Aurora. After he realized what the government was up to, he started another kind of killing. Looks like some of that work just might have been at the "ballpark."

http://105thairbornecrusaders.com - The sniper used to be part of "the 105th," he writes, which was a military group formed in response to "the atrocities in Los Angeles." Learn more about them and what they did for the U.S. government.

http://churchofplano.com - Neighborhood Cleansing? The righteous killing the wicked? God vs. the Presence? Yikes.

http://www.consolidatedmailsystems.com/nooneimportant - In 2022, there's an online mail system. As the user "nooneimportant," you can learn more about another new drug called Opal that everyone seems to be using. Opal's like cocaine, but it turns your eyes black, and sometimes, users feel a certain Presence…

http://www.uswiretap.com/71839J - There's another website in 2022, run by the Bureau of Morality, that allows users access to wiretapped conversations – "For a Safer America," it claims. This conversation takes place between a Bureau agent and a police officer. It involves dead people in a club, a lot of them, exactly how they ended up that way, and what happened next. If you're sharp, you'll find a phone number. If you're not easily freaked out, you should call it.

http://www.artisresistance.com - When you try to view this site, you'll get a bright red pop-up telling you, basically, to leave. "FREEDOM IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT," it says. Ignore it. This is a resistance site, and you can download tools to resist through art (i.e. not through violence).

http://www.hollywoodinmemoriam.org - Dirty bombs went off at the 81st Academy Awards. The Kodak Theatre was leveled, and radioactive fallout caused LA to be evacuated. According to the site, this was the work of Islamic extremists. This must have been the "atrocities" that birthed the 105th Airborne. This past Oscars were the 79th, and the website surfaced just as they were happened. Feel that chill?

http://www.solutionsbackwardsinitiative.net/pilgrims - This one's insane. It came from the packaging for the new Beside You In Time DVD. There's an IRC chat you can read if you hang out long enough. It's pretty scary… and it explains how we're getting this information from Year Zero. Time travel… computer data style.

A message from Trent:

This record began as an experiment with noise on a laptop in a bus on tour somewhere. That sound led to a daydream about the end of the world. That daydream stuck with me and over time revealed itself to be much more. I believe sometimes you have a choice in what inspiration you choose to follow and other times you really don't. This record is the latter. Once I tuned into it, everything fell into place... as if it were meant to be. With a framework established, the songs were very easy to write. Things started happening in my "real" life that blurred the lines of what was fiction and what wasn't. The record turned out to be more than a just a record in scale, as you will see over time.

Part one is Year Zero. Concept record. Sixteen tracks. All written and performed by me, produced / programmed by me and Atticus Ross, mixed by Alan Moulder, mastered by Brian "Big Bass" Gardner. Release date: April 17, 2007.

What's it about? Well, it takes place about fifteen years in the future. Things are not good. If you imagine a world where greed and power continue to run their likely course, you'll have an idea of the backdrop. The world has reached the breaking point - politically, spiritually and ecologically. Written from various perspectives of people in this world, "year zero" examines various viewpoints set against an impending moment of truth. How does it sound? You will hear for yourself soon enough, but given the point of this document is to provide information...

This record is much more of a "sound collage" than recent efforts from me.
A lot of it was improvised.
It is very tedious describing your own music.
It's not just music.
It's probably too long, but it felt like the right thing to do to paint the complete picture.
It will sound different after a few listens.
You can think about it and it will reveal more than you were expecting.
You can dance to a lot of it.
You can f##k to a lot of it (maybe all of it depending on what you're into).

Iraq war vet shot to death in Hammond
Friend says gang members attacked by mistake
WLS By Charles Thomas

January 18, 2007 - A Chicago Marine who survived two tours in Iraq was killed in a shooting outside a northwest Indiana bar. Police are investigating whether that shooting is linked to a similar crime in Gary. The father of Corporal Isaias Cintron says that his son w
The father of a Chicago Marine is still trying to make sense of his son's violent death. It did not happen, as the father once feared, in the desert of western Iraq. Instead, the young man was gunned down less than five miles from his family home.

"Had he died in Iraq serving his country, it wouldn't be so hard for me to accept," said Tomas Cintron.

Cintron waited four nerve-wracking years on Chicago's Southeast Side while his only son, Isaias, served two tours of duty as a United States Marine in Iraq. Isaias fought first in Fallujah and later in violent Anbar province, where the 24-year-old combat engineer earned the rank of corporal.

Isaias survived and received a hero's welcome home a few days before last Thanksgiving. Then, at 1:30 Thursday morning, after pulling his car into the parking lot of Hammond's Portside Pub, 1500 Indianapolis Blvd., he was shot to death in a hail of bullets.

"Knowing that he was in such danger overseas, he comes here to our backyard and suffers a criminal death," said Tomas Cintron, victim's father.

Hammond police say they are investigating whether the shooting is related to an unspecified incident earlier this week in Gary.

Twenty-five-year-old Vicente Hernandez, who was one of three passengers in Cintron's car, suffered a graze wound on his forearm. He speculated that gang members attacked the car by mistake.

"They didn't say nothing. They just start shooting. That's the kind of people they are," said Hernandez.

Isaias Cintron planned to take the next available Chicago police exam. Wednesday, he refused a Marine Corps request that he return to Iraq to train Iraqi soldiers. He wanted to be home, working for the time being with his contractor father--safe with his family.

"Just last month he's been working with me, he's been telling me how much he appreciated the guidance that I gave him, what I did for him," said Tomas Cintron. "I don't know what happened, why his life had to end the way it did."

Hammond police say they are investigating whether the shooting is related to an incident earlier this week in neighboring Gary. Hammond detectives had no specifics and the Gary police were unavailable for comment.
